Trunk or Treat

Last night my church had Trunk-or-Treat for the children. Now when I told some of my co-workers about it, they were totally confused. They had never heard of "Trunk-or-Treat". So I'm going to explain just a little bit about it. Basically the members of the church all park in the parking lot and hand out candy from their trunks. Some people get very creative and also have games to play. It allows a safe environment for the kids to trick-or-treat.

Calvin went Trunk-or-Treating as a little giraffe. He was the most adorable baby their in a costume. Nobody had to tell me, I could clearly see he was the cutest :)

Obvious costume winner

I will say the cutest little girl's costume went to Brittany and Tommy's little girl. She was just adorable. I could have eaten her up when I saw her :)

We also saw some pretty impressive trunk decorations. We had so much fun walking around watching all the adorable kids trunk-or-treating. I love to see all the different costumes, the costumes get better every year. Calvin also trunk-or-treated because his parents he loves candy too!

Bishop Foye and Terri also did an awesome job with their costumes. I just love these two so much....I mean who doesn't?? They're just so much fun to be around! Plus Terri and I get to share awesome x-ray stories ;)

I also got a chance to see one of the cutest dogs ever...dressed as a dinosaur!! Is he not just adorable in this little costume?

I just love fall...it has become my favorite season. I love the cool air, leaves changing color, festivals, and decorations. Calvin lasted about 45 minutes before he started to cross to the dark side. So we decided to call it a night and take our little giraffe back to the zoo.

Weekend with the Cousins

This weekend we went to spend time with the Wades in Peachtree City. Calvin got to spend time with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and his cousins. He doesn't get to see them often since half of them live in Utah. He's finally sitting up (with help) and finding he's able to see more of this curious world around him.

Big blue eyes!

Calvin now entertains himself which is a huge relief for me. Instead of being a bored, little turtle on his back, he can actually watch everything sitting up. He is utterly intrigued with new noises, and especially loves when little children come see him. He gets so excited when his cousins come to play with him! They seem to equally enjoy playing with him too, but his sweetpea truly loves him best :)

Calvin also enjoyed playing with his other cousins too :) But in all honesty, His favorite person has to be Aunt Jenise. All she has to do is smile at him and he goes bananas!

Jayde, Brit, and Dax

Brit received an important phone call while playing with Cal.

We don't get to see Tammy often, so it was great visiting with my sweet sister-in-law! Granny Wade also had fun playing with Calvin, but he became a little fussy because he needed a nap. Actually, After stuffing ourselves with five-guys burger and fries, we all needed a nap! So we lounged around a few more hours talking.

It was a few hours later when we suspected Calvin might be trying to say his first word. I'm not real sure but it sounds like da-da.

Calvin also has his first little baby tooth...it's just adorable :)

We really miss being close to family, so we can visit whenever we want. We hope to all be close to one another in the upcoming years. Calvin really misses his grandparents as do Trent and I :)

The Pumpkin Patch

Today we took Calvin to the pumpkin patch to look at pumpkins. We set him on the ground to see which pumpkin he would choose. He seemed much more interested in pulling the grass out of the ground than actually paying attention to the pumpkins.

Focused on pulling grass up

We then had to find a pumpkin to put in front of him so he would look at us and stop pulling the grass :)

This pumpkin was the perfect size for Calvin to play with. He absolutely LOVES being outside and around crowds of people. It's so much fun to watch this little boy explore new things and new surroundings. Of course he wants to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. I can't wait to put Calvin in his Halloween costume and take him Trick-or-treating.

There were camels on this farm too...so cool!

Then we took several fall pictures of our favorite little person in the world.

They also reminded us that abuse of the pumpkins is absolutely prohibited!

I think Fall has become my favorite season of the year. I love the cool weather, fall festivals, leaves changing color, and all the pies!!

What happened to my baby?

When I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't wait to cuddle my little baby. I watched other girls in my church snuggling with their newborn babies while waiting on Calvin to make his big debut. I imagined how I would hold him against me and love on him. I couldn't wait to rock him to sleep and just comfort him. Little did I know...

Calvin was going to be quite a different baby than what I expected. Our first 2 days in the hospital Calvin was silent. Not even a peep. But on our way home from the hospital, Calvin started to scream. And when I say scream I mean this baby has some pipes on him. He has cried from that day until now.

His first 3 months he cried when he was in his crib, he cried if I sat him in my lap, he cried if I laid him on the floor or put in in any kind of bouncy. It didn't matter what I did, he just cried ALL the time. We bought every toy imaginable to try to pacify this baby....and no success. We accepted the fact that if he was awake then pretty much he was screaming. And no, he didn't suffer from colic. I was sad that I couldn't hold him close and rock him. He would kick to get away at 2 weeks old!! But he did enjoy being carried...but NO sitting, you had to keep moving.

Around 4 months he started to calm down just a little bit. Mainly because he started sucking his thumb. He never would take a pacifier. He acted like I was slipping poison into his mouth! But in order to suck his thumb  he HAD to have a washcloth in the other hand that he would rub his face with. If you forgot the washcloth, it was game over. He would scream and scream until you got it right.

It was around 5 months that we realized the majority of the time that Cal cried, he wanted us to put him down and leave him alone. He did want to be able to see us but not always held. He finally ditched the washcloth and wanted his blanky. He started to enjoy being in a bouncy for about 20 minutes...then he was done. He is very difficult to entertain, he gets bored so fast with new toys and new activity gyms.

I finally realized that my son doesn't care to be held a lot. He LOVES going outside more than anything in the world. He instantly stops crying. He adores other little kids and likes to watch them play. He's not a happy, snuggly baby but he does laugh and smile frequently now. He has always seemed independent and kinda an introvert (wonder where he gets that from). I was sad that he never allowed me to snuggle him but I'm so proud of Cal's little unique personality. For the longest time i wondered "What happened to my baby"?

He always looks so somber

A weekend with the Berrie Family

This past weekend Trent and I went to visit my parents. We haven't been to visit them in quite some time so we were excited to visit them in their new house. I also have a new niece that I couldn't wait to meet. She is absolutely adorable!

We got a chance to go shoot our gun with my brother. "Our gun" is actually the gun I bought for Trent's Christmas present last year. It's an M&P 0.40 cal. and I loved shooting it. I've been so scared of it but my brother asked me a good question. He said "If someone breaks into your house, will you know how to shoot your gun"? And the truth is...I wouldn't have the faintest idea how to shoot the gun. I was scared of it!! BUT after Wade showed me how to load, cock, and aim the gun, it seemed less scary. I actually have pretty good aim too!! Burglars beware...Nothing in our home worth dying for.

After shooting, we went home to check on our beast (Cal's nickname) and see how he was behaving for mom. He was having a great time with his granny!! Mom cooked us some amazing dinners which included delicious dessert. I gained 1.6 pounds from this weekend but it was totally worth it. Okay - maybe I snuck  some oreos between meals, but I've lost 48 lbs so far!!

Later that night Trent and I pushed Cal around the neighborhood in his stroller. He had a blast looking at all the lights and feeling the cool breeze. We also watched for toads on the sidewalk- they were everywhere!! Every night we take Cal for a walk because he LOVES being outside! It's also a time when Trent and I can talk about our day.

Sunday my niece was given a sweet blessing by my brother. We were so happy to have a chance to be a part of this sweet little girl's blessing. She was also one of the first babies I've heard cry during a blessing...and I loved it!!

Calvin enjoyed being with his family, but he loved being with granny the most :)
